COIMBATORE: A student from a private college near Peelamedu in the city was raped by a three-member gang while she was talking to her friend near Coimbatore International Airport late Sunday night.According to the police, an post graduate student from a private college in the city was talking to her friend in a car near Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday night around 11 pm.The gang, who arrived on a two-wheeler, noticed them in the car, assaulted her boyfriend, and kidnapped her. They took her to an isolated place and raped her before abandoning her without clothes.The injured boyfriend alerted the police, who launched a search and found the girl in an isolated area behind a private college, which is a kilometer away from Coimbatore Airport. She was rescued around 4am in the morning and admitted to a private hospital near Sitra.“The trio stole a two-wheeler near Kovilpalayam and traveled on Airport Road, where they found the girl and her boyfriend together in a car. Seven special teams have been formed to apprehend the culprits,” said a police officer.The injured youth was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her/his privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
