Gujarat shocker: Jilted lover plants CCTV behind ex’s house; tracks her 24x7, booked for privacy invasion

AHMEDABAD: A man from Mehsana district secretly filmed his former girlfriend 24×7 by installing a CCTV camera behind her house. He has been booked for stalking and invading her privacy, police said on Sunday.According to senior officers of Mehsana police, the complainant, who is an anganwadi employee in a village in Kadi taluka, was in a relationship with the accused for about 10 years. The relationship continued even after her marriage, but ended after her husband discovered their communication through messages and calls. The woman and her husband then met the man and asked him to end all contact, after which she stopped meeting him.The accused allegedly continued harassing her, followed her to her workplace, loitered near her home, and kept track of her movements. One day, while cleaning the area behind their house, the couple found a small CCTV camera hidden inside a bush, stated Inspector S R Chaudhary of Bavlu police.Suspecting foul play, her husband checked the device’s memory card. The footage allegedly showed the accused standing before the camera, which confirmed that he had installed it to monitor the woman’s daily activities. The husband later submitted a complaint at Bavlu police station, leading to the registration of a case.Chaudhary said that a preliminary inquiry also revealed that the accused may have gained access to another CCTV camera in the locality to keep surveillance on the woman’s movements. “We have reported a case of stalking under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and started an investigation,” Chaudhary said.Police said that such acts amount to serious privacy violations and cause mental distress to victims. The investigation will include forensic analysis of the camera and memory card to determine the extent of surveillance and whether the footage was shared or stored elsewhere.
