Tesla CEO Elon Musk: The reason government programs are so inefficient is …

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently said that the government programmes are often inefficient because they operate without real competitors or customer feedback. In a post on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), the tech billionaire wrote: “The reason government programs are so inefficient is that, unlike a commercial company, the feedback loop for improvement is broken, because they have a state-mandated monopoly and can’t go out of business if customers are unhappy. He added that poor service in government departments continues because citizens have no choice but to use them. “No matter how bad the service is at your DMV (sorry to pick on DMVs), you still have to use your DMV, because it’s a monopoly,” Musk said.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has often been vocal about government inefficiency and regulation. His latest remarks appear to be a broader criticism of how state-run institutions lack accountability compared to private companies, which must improve constantly to retain customers.Musk’s post has drawn attention on X, with several users agreeing with his comments about bureaucratic inefficiency, while others argued that public services cannot always function like private businesses due to their social obligations.Commenting on Musk’s post, one user wrote “Imagine shareholders of a failing company demanding that other shareholders give the company more money to fail. Socialism in a nutshell”. The Tesla CEO replied in affirmative writing ‘Yup’. U.S. Senator for Kentucky Rand Paul also responded to Musk’s post. He wrote: “Which is why we should let government do as little as necessary and keep power with individuals and the market”. To this, Musk replied with a Yes.
