Karnataka shifts prison chief, suspends 2 officials after row over VVIP treatment

BENGALURU: Amid outrage over viral videos showing VVIP treatment for inmates — including terror suspects and convicted rapists — at Bengaluru Central Prison, Karnataka government on Monday transferred the prison’s chief superintendent and suspended two senior officials, while ordering an ADGP-headed probe into irregularities across all prisons in the state.Home minister G Parameshwara convened an emergency review meeting with senior police and prison department officials. In a major move aimed at tightening oversight, the minister announced that an IPS officer will henceforth head Bengaluru Central Prison.
