Google founder Sergey Brin 'gifts' more than $1.1 billion worth of Google-parent Alphabet stock, with most of the money going to…
Google co-founder Sergey Brin has gifted over $1.1 billion in Alphabet stock, primarily to his nonprofit Catalyst4, which tackles brain diseases and climate change. Additional significant donations went to his family foundation and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. This follows a substantial May donation, underscoring Brin’s expanding philanthropic efforts amidst a surge in his wealth driven by Alphabet’s AI advancements.

Google co-founderSergey Brin has donated over $1.1 billion in Alphabet Inc. stock this week, directing the majority toward a nonprofit organization he established, according to a regulatory filing disclosed. The massive donation involved more than 3.5 million shares, with approximately $1 billion allocated to Catalyst4, a nonprofit Brin founded in 2021. The organization focuses on dual missions: advancing research into central nervous system diseases and developing climate-change solutions, a spokesperson for Brin’s family office confirmed.

Sergey Brin expands philanthropic reach with additional donations

Beyond Catalyst4, Brin distributed about $90 million to his family foundation and $45 million to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which supports Parkinson’s disease research. This marks Brin’s second major philanthropic move this year, following a $700 million donation to the same three charities in May.The 52-year-old Google co-founder currently ranks as the world’s fourth-richest person, with a net worth of $255.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. However, his position on the billionaires list has fluctuated recently. After briefly claiming the third spot earlier this week when he surpassed Oracle’s Larry Ellison, Brin fell back to fourth place as Alphabet shares retreated from their peak.

Alphabet’s AI-driven rally boosts Brin’s fortune by nearly $100 billion

Brin’s wealth has surged dramatically this year, thanks to an impressive rally in Alphabet shares fueled by the company’s enhanced focus on artificial intelligence tools. The stock reached a record high of $323 on Tuesday before experiencing a slight decline. Brin, who owns roughly 6% of Alphabet, has seen his fortune increase by $97.3 billion in 2025 alone. His Google co-founder Larry Page maintains the number two position on the global billionaires list. The regulatory filing did not specify all recipients of the donated shares, but the spokesperson’s statement clarified the primary beneficiaries of Brin’s philanthropic gesture during a period of significant wealth accumulation driven by AI market optimism.
