Nadda urges MPs to push TB-mukt Bharat as India reports sharp decline in cases

NEW DELHI: Union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Tuesday urged MPs to intensify efforts for the TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, stressing their role in monitoring progress, raising awareness and reducing stigma in their constituencies.At a special session with MPs — the first in a series, with a focus on Uttar Pradesh — officials briefed them on campaign activities and expectations from elected representatives.Nadda highlighted that India’s TB incidence has fallen 21% from 2015 to 2024 (237 to 187 per lakh population), nearly double the global decline of 12%, while mortality has dropped from 28 to 21 per lakh.MPs were also updated on key interventions, including AI-enabled chest X-rays, Truenat testing, shorter treatment regimens and decentralised TB care via Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.He called for deeper screening and stronger community mobilisation, urging MPs to help make TB elimination a Jan Andolan.
