Police have arrested Shashi Nambiar (64) and his wife Usha (57) on charges of abetting the suicide. Their son, Varun Nambiar, is currently being sought by authorities. The couple was produced before a magistrate and remanded in 14-day judicial custody.A 10-page death note recovered by police outlined Murali’s accusations. It said the Nambiars and “a few GBA officials” had tortured him over alleged violations of approved building plans and repeatedly demanded Rs 20 lakh to stop the harassment. The Death Note“I am holding responsible Usha Nambiyar, her husband Shashi Nambiar and their son Varun Nambiar responsible for my death. They trapped me in a property issue and harassed me for money. I was unable to come out of the trap. I could not sell the property, nor construct to my desire nor live in the constructed property. I was ruined by them (Nambiars). We have lived a reputed life and no one in my family had ever visited a police station or attended a court. But Usha and Shashi made me to run around police station and court and spoiled the reputation of my family. The Nambiars should be held responsible for everything—my death and the downfall of my family. I had invested my entire life’s earnings in this property. My property and other earnings should go to my mother. After her death, the same should be passed on to my children.”A senior police officer said residents have accused the Nambiars of extorting money by filing cases against them with BBMP.“According to locals, many houses are constructed in and around Nallurahalli where, Usha Nambiar, plays the role of an activist. If someone is harassed or tortured by Nambiars, we request them to come forward and file a police complaint,” he said.Investigations indicate that the spat began in 2018, when Murali purchased a 40×60 sq ft plot of land. Usha Nambiar reportedly approached BBMP, accusing him of violating the approved plan. BBMP conducted a spot inspection and issued a notice directing Murali to appear before officials on Wednesday.
