NEW DELHI: A DTC bus driver was dragged from his vehicle and beaten to death allegedly by a group of wedding guests in Aman Vihar late Saturday in a brutal burst of road rage. Police have arrested one of the suspects, Rahul, while three are on the run. A video on social media shows the mob hauling the driver off in the middle of the road. Police said they received a call around 11.20 pm informing about a fight near City Vatika, Shiv Chowk. When a team reached the spot, they learnt the dispute began when the driver of the DTC bus struggled to steer through a stretch choked by a marriage procession. A wedding guest’s car was stuck ahead of the bus, leading to an argument between the two drivers,” a police officer said.

Police said the car’s driver called in his relatives to the spot. They allegedly assaulted the bus driver, identified as Vikas of Jhajjar in Haryana. Vikas suffered severe injuries. A bystander, Suraj, who stepped in to help, was also attacked. The police team took both Vikas and Suraj to SGM Hospital, from where Vikas was referred to Safdarjung Hospital. Police said Vikas died Sunday. The conductor of the bus, Umesh, 36, also sustained injuries. Based on his statement, police have registered a case. The DTC Employees’ Unity Union staged a protest demanding justice for the driver. The union demanded ‘1-crore compensation for his family, and strict action taken against the accused.
