The 14-year-old is leading the Indian side for the entire series in the absence of regular captain Ayush Mhatre and has set the tone from the top. In the second ODI, he played a blistering knock of 68, racing to the score off just 24 balls and bringing up his half-century in only 19 deliveries. His innings was built on clean, fearless hitting, with the South African bowlers put under pressure right from the start, helping India win the DLS-affected game.
In the third game, played today, Vaibhav went on to convert his start into yet another century, once again underlining his growing stature at the Under-19 level. His explosive batting has reinforced his reputation as one of the most exciting young batters in world cricket. Last year, Vaibhav set a new benchmark by scoring the fastest hundred in Under-19 cricket, reaching the milestone in just 52 balls against England in Worcester. India now hold a 2–0 lead in the three-match ODI series against South Africa Under-19s. The series is part of India’s preparation for the Under-19 World Cup, which begins on January 15 across Zimbabwe and Namibia.
