NEW DELHI: Gujarat Giants opener Sophie Devine took charge early and scored quickly against Delhi Capitals during their Women’s Premier League match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.Devine reached her half-century off 25 balls after a steady beginning. She targeted the Delhi Capitals bowling, led by Jemimah Rodrigues, and shifted the momentum in Gujarat’s favour.

The key moment of her innings came in the sixth over of Gujarat’s innings, bowled by off-spinner Sneh Rana. Devine scored 32 runs off that over, hitting two fours and four sixes.Follow live updates
She began the over with a boundary after Rana bowled a slot delivery on the pads, which Devine hit through mid-wicket. The second ball was also struck for four. On the third delivery, Rana bowled a slower, full-length ball outside off, and Devine stepped down the track and hit it over long-on for six.The fourth ball was tossed up on the leg stump. Devine cleared her front leg and hit it over cow corner for another six to complete her fifty off 25 balls. The fifth delivery was another floated half-volley, which Devine hit over deep mid-wicket for a third six in a row.The final ball of the over was a full toss on the leg side, and Devine again hit it over deep mid-wicket. The over produced 32 runs and pushed Gujarat forward.Devine eventually fell five short of an amazing hundred and scored 95 runs off 42 balls.Earlier, Delhi Capitals Women won the toss and chose to field against Gujarat Giants Women in match 4 of the Women’s Premier League 2026 on Sunday in Navi Mumbai.
