VDG’s gun goes off accidentally, teen son dies

JAMMU: The 16-year-old son of a Village Defence Guard (VDG) died after the latter’s gun went off accidentally at his home in Chatroo, in J&K’s Kishtwar district, late Saturday.Police said VDG Piary Lal, a resident of Chatroo’s Loidhar, had been cleaning his gun when a bullet was fired inadvertently, hitting his son Anuj Kumar, a class XI student. The teen died on the spot.On being informed, a police team reached the spot and seized the firearm, besides shifting the body to a nearby hospital for autopsy. Cops said inquest proceedings were underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the firing, and further investigations were on.“After post-mortem and other legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for last rites,” a policeman said.
