NHL Trade Rumors continue to swirl around Ottawa as a season that once promised momentum has slipped into uneasy territory. The Senators are searching for answers, and those answers appear to be pointing toward the blue line. A narrow 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks briefly stopped the bleeding, but it did little to mask deeper issues that have dragged the team to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. There have been flashes of grit and belief, even during the long absence of captain Brady Tkachuk. Still, effort alone has not been enough to steady the standings. With time ticking and patience thinning, Ottawa’s front office knows the margin for error is shrinking fast. That urgency has pushed general manager Steve Staios into the center of trade discussions once again.

NHL Trade Rumors put Rasmus Andersson firmly on Ottawa’s radar

Few names have dominated league chatter quite like Rasmus Andersson. The Calgary Flames defenseman has found himself at the heart of NHL Trade Rumors, largely because of timing and circumstance. Calgary’s struggles in the 2025-26 campaign have opened the door, and Andersson’s contract situation only fuels the noise. He is in the final year of a six-year $27.3 million deal, making him both valuable and vulnerable as the deadline nears.Toronto has been widely linked to Andersson, but practical hurdles remain. The Maple Leafs lack the assets to comfortably satisfy Calgary, and history adds another layer of complexity. As Mike Gould observed for the Daily Faceoff, “The Flames have conspicuously not made a deal with the Leafs since Treliving left for Toronto in 2023, with rumors and speculation abound that Treliving will have to pay a considerably higher price than other GMs to acquire any players from his former team. That reality has created an opening for Ottawa. Staios has reportedly explored the possibility, though conditions apply. “The club has also kicked tires with the Calgary Flames on right-shot defenceman Rasmus Andersson, but he’d have to be willing to sign an extension in Ottawa to make a move,” Bruce Garrioch reported for the Ottawa Citizen.Inside the room, players remain focused on internal solutions. “‘It’s within our group. We’ve got to dig deep right now. It’s not that we’re running out of time, but there’s half a season left, and to be honest, we’ve got a lot of ground to make up. We all have the belief in our group that we can do that,’” said defenseman Jake Sanderson.Ottawa is not alone in the chase. Detroit, Dallas, Carolina, and Vegas are all monitoring the situation closely. With interest building and the deadline approaching, it feels increasingly likely that Andersson’s future will be decided sooner rather than later. Also Read: NHL insider explains how a shifting buyer-seller market impacts Sidney Crosby and Erik Karlsson’s future
