Did SNL call JD Vance ‘gay’? Saturday Night Live turns cold open into a one-man awards sweep

Saturday Night Live didn’t just open with a cold open — it opened with a self-congratulatory fever dream of the US president. In this week’s sketch, Donald Trump hosted his own award show, handed out his own trophies, and somehow still found the time to thank… himself. The nominations? All Trump. The winners? Also Trump. The applause? In the skit, Trump was hosting The Trumps, a media awards show where he was also nominated for multiple categories, a bizarro world version of the real awards circuit, where Trump recently hosted the Kennedy Center honors at the flagship arts institution he recently renamed after himself. A clip of skit going viral showing, Trump, played by James Austin Johnson and Vice president JD Vance, played by Jeremy Culhane, were on stage for the announcement of the nominations for best picture of Trump. And their conversation goes: Vance: Did you know that if I win in 2028, I’ll be the first president in 100 years to have a beard? Trump: Wow! And speaking of your beard, how’s your wife Usha? Vance: Very good, sir. Trump: I’m insinuating you’re gay.

Trump Awards Cold Open – SNL

The comment irked social media fans. One of the users commented: “So leftists are allowed to be homophobic and racists now?”Another said, “Saturday Night Live really dusted off a joke from the Beard Discourse Vault and said, ‘Yep, still runs’.”
