iPhone users, you may be about to get your first real look at Google-Apple partnership for your phones starting ...

Apple is preparing to overhaul Siri from a voice assistant into a conversational AI chatbot, marking the most dramatic change since it launched in 2011. The new Siri will run on Google’s Gemini models following a partnership Apple finalized earlier this month. Now a new Bloomberg report suggests that Apple is preparing to unveil the upgraded Siri in February 2026. “Apple appears to be less than a month away from unveiling the results of this partnership. The company has been planning an announcement of the new Siri in the second half of February, when it will give demonstrations of the functionality,” reads the report.

What’s changing in Siri

As per the report, Siri will now integrate Gemini’s advanced generative AI capabilities, enabling more natural conversations, smarter contextual responses and deeper integration with apps. This partnership could give iPhone users access to Google’s cutting-edge AI technology directly within Apple’s ecosystem, a move that signals Apple’s willingness to lean on external AI expertise rather than building everything in-house.Siri will work with both voice and text, handling tasks like content generation, file analysis, summarization, and coding help. It’ll integrate with Apple’s core apps—Photos, Mail, Messages, Music—and access their content to respond to requests. Apple is also developing a feature letting Siri view open windows and adjust device settings.

Apple’s AI struggles made outside help inevitable

The deal reflects Apple’s rocky journey in AI. The company delayed its major Siri upgrade from spring 2025 to 2026, sidelined AI chief John Giannandrea from development, and lost key talent including foundation models head Ruoming Pang to Meta. Apple’s research and development spending has hovered at just 8 per cent of revenue while competitors poured hundreds of billions into AI infrastructure. One former Apple executive summed it up to the FT: the Google deal was “a necessary byproduct of Apple’s decision not to ‘go big’ on its AI investments like its competitors.” Apple still plans to develop its own trillion-parameter model eventually. But for now, it’s betting that Google can deliver what its own teams couldn’t.The existing ChatGPT integration with Apple Intelligence remains intact—for now. But analysts aren’t optimistic about its future. “Having two large models, given the economies of scale, wouldn’t make a ton of sense for Apple,” noted Gene Munster at Deepwater Asset Management.
