LUCKNOW: Seven years after a delayed train cost a young girl an important exam, she has been awarded Rs 9.1 lakh in compensation.The district consumer disputes redressal commission in Basti held the railways accountable for the delay that stopped her from reaching the entrance exam centre for Lucknow University’s BSc biotechnology course on time.The decision brings closure to a legal fight that began in 2018. On the morning of May 7, Samriddhi, then aged 17, boarded a train from Basti to Lucknow to sit for the exam. Her centre was Jai Narayan PG College in Lucknow. The student had to reach the hall by 12.30 pm. The Gorakhpur-Lucknow Intercity Superfast Express, which reaches Basti at 6.55 am, was meant to arrive at Lucknow by 11 am. Instead, it reached Lucknow two-and-a-half hours late.
