OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT has lost nearly million users since the company announced an agreement with the Pentagon. How to download ChatGPT chats
Follow the steps below:
- Open ChatGPT in your browser
- Go to your profile by clicking on the profile icon in the bottom left corner
- Here select Settings
- Next, click on Data Controls
- You will find the option to export chats. Click on Export button that appears alongside the Export data option at the bottom of the screen
- Follow the on screen instructions
But, in case you want to delete your chat history with ChatGPT, you should
- Go to your ChatGPT chat history sidebar.
- Hover over the conversation you want to delete.
- Click the three dots (⋯) next to the chat title.
- Select Delete from the menu.
- Confirm your deletion when prompted.
What happens when you delete ChatGPT chat
As explained on OpenAI’s official help page, the chat is immediately removed from your chat history view once you choose to delete it. Important things to know before deleting ChatGPT chat include:
- It is scheduled for permanent deletion from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days, unless:
- It has already been de-identified and disassociated from your account, or
- OpenAI must retain it for security or legal obligations.
- You cannot recover a chat once it’s deleted. Deleted chats are not retrievable through the UI, APIs, or support.
