Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's message as the company takes on Walmart with 1-hour and 3-hour delivery options

Amazon recently announced that it is expanding its quick delivery offerings with new 1-hour and 3-hour options across several US cities. This new fast-delivery service comes as the company steps up its competition with its biggest rival, Walmart. Announcing the move, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy took to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to say the service is aimed at addressing everyday customer needs, adding that teams across the company have been working to enable quicker access to products. The rollout allows customers to choose from over 90,000 items, including groceries, household essentials, electronics, and more, with delivery in as little as one hour in select locations such as Los Angeles and Chicago.

In his X post, Jassy wrote, “Everyone knows what it’s like to scramble to get something done. Missing ingredients before people come over for dinner. Packing school lunches for the morning. Needing new headphones for tomorrow’s flight.Teams across Amazon have been working to solve those problems, and today we’re introducing 1-hour and 3-hour delivery options on over 90,000 products—everything from paper towels and cleaning supplies to electronics.One-hour delivery is available in hundreds of cities and towns, and 3-hour delivery in over 2,000…with more coming. Should be a big help.”

How Amazon’s 1-hour service will work in US

Amazon’s US customers will see eligible items for 1-hour and 3-hour delivery within their regular Same-Day shopping experience, with new labels displayed next to product names. To simplify browsing, Amazon has also introduced “in 1 hour” and “in 3 hours” search filters, along with a dedicated storefront page in regions where these options are available.The 1-hour delivery option is currently available in hundreds of cities and towns across the US, including parts of Los Angeles, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Nashville, Houston, and Washington, D.C., as well as smaller cities such as Des Moines, Boise, and American Fork. Meanwhile, the three-hour delivery service is now available in over 2,000 locations, including big cities, mid-sized towns, small towns, and even the surrounding suburbs such as Cornwall, Harrah, and Arabi.These delivery options are available seven days a week, and the service will extend to even more locations in the future. For non-Prime members, the cost will be $19.99 for one-hour delivery and $14.99 for three-hour delivery. Prime members will also have access to our Same Day Delivery option for no additional cost.
