According to court documents, Kerron Swift has accused Deontay Wilder of repeated physical abuse dating back to around 2016, when he was living in Wilder’s household, TMZ reports. The lawsuit outlines several disturbing incidents. One allegation claims Wilder struck him inside a car when he was 13, leaving him dazed after his head hit the interior. Another describes a 2019 episode involving a belt that allegedly caused visible bruising. The most serious claim centers on a 2022 encounter. Swift alleges Wilder grabbed him by the throat, lifted him off the ground, slammed him against a wall, and threw him onto a table. He says he feared for his life in that moment. The lawsuit also points to photographs of injuries and references Wilder’s past public comments about wanting “a body” on his record to underline what it describes as a violent mindset.Swift is seeking damages and has requested a jury trial, citing physical harm and long-term emotional distress. Wilder’s legal team has firmly rejected the allegations. His attorney, Paul Patterson, called the claims false and questioned their timing.“This is obviously an attempt to smear the good name of Deontay Wilder in pursuit of personal gain. Deontay Wilder is known as a loving and caring father who has never physically disciplined any child of his own or anyone else.”“The timing of this lawsuit is suspicious since Mr. Wilder fights in less than 48 hours.”
Deontay Wilder is facing personal battle ahead of Derek Chisora bout
The legal battle arrives at a fragile point in Wilder’s career. Now 40, he is set to face Chisora in what could define his immediate future in the sport. Both fighters are entering their 50th professional bout, but the stakes feel heavier for Wilder, whose recent form has raised questions.Former rival Bryant Jennings offered insight into the pressure surrounding him, suggesting the issues go beyond boxing. “He pretty much has a lot of pressure on him. He’s dealing with a lot right now, a lot of personal issues, home issues that, you know, us as men we go through and we understand.”Jennings added that balancing those struggles with the demands of elite competition is not easy. “It’s a lot of pressure on him and this is where his respect level gets so even though it is solidified, they’re wishy-washy.”There are also lingering discussions about Wilder’s evolution as a fighter. David Haye questioned whether the calmer version of Wilder can still succeed at the highest level, recalling the intensity that once defined him. “He was cold. I remember watching him thinking, ‘God damn, this guy’s a killer.’ He’s the danger man, but that’s not there anymore.”Now, fans are waiting for his bout against Derek Chisora.
