NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Monday complimented the security forces for the successful, safe and smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra — coming as it did after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor — saying that more than 4.1 lakh pilgrims had visited the holy cave this year.“Over 4.14 lakh pilgrims did darshan of Baba Barfani during this year’s Amarnath yatra, a symbol of unwavering Indian tradition and devotion. I congratulate all the security forces, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, J&K administration and voluntary organisations for making this pilgrimage secure and smooth. Your contribution in making this sacred pilgrimage successful is commendable and exceptional. May Baba Barfani continue to bestow his grace upon all!” Shah said in a post on X.The annual pilgrimage this year was held months after three Pakistani terrorists affiliated to the Lashker e Taiba had brutally gunned down 26 innocent men, including 25 tourists, in Pahalgam in front of their horror-struck families. The attack led India to launch Operation Sindoor, during which its armed forces not only destroyed key terrorist bases in Pakistan but also hit the neighbour’s military assets after it tried to target Indian civilian and military establishments.Tight security arrangements were made for the Amarnath Yatra — which began on July 3 but ended a week ahead of schedule due to inclement weather — in view of the preceding events, with Shah having chaired meetings to oversee the preparations. On July 28, while the Amarnath Yatra was underway, the Army, CRPF and J&K police, in a joint operation, neutralised all three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack.
