Delhi Molestation Case: Chaitanyananda Saraswati Quizzed at Sri Sharda Institute

Self-styled godman Swami Chaitanyananda was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a Delhi court

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday remanded self-styled godman Swami Chaitanyananda to 14 days of judicial custody over allegations of sexually harassing women at a private management institute in the city. He was produced before judicial magistrate Animesh Kumar at Patiala House courts, where Delhi Police sought his judicial custody. Police informed the court that Section 232 (threatening a person to give false evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) had been added to the FIR, stating that one woman was allegedly threatened after the case was registered.Previously, he had been booked under Sections 75(2) (sexual harassment), 79 (insulting modesty of a woman), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS at Vasant Kunj North police station. Chaitanyananda’s counsel filed multiple applications seeking preservation of the seizure memo and case diaries, permission for him to wear monk robes and access to medicines and vegetarian food without onion or garlic. The court has issued notice to police for a response on the pleas.Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Pallavi Tyagi has scheduled the hearing for October 8. The court also directed that the interim order concerning the Sanyasi’s food and medicines will remain in effect until the next hearing.Delhi police on Saturday filed replies on two applications moved by Chaitanyanand Saraswati
