NEW DELHI: A woman in her mid-20s has been booked for allegedly pouring hot oil and chilli powder on her husband at their house in south Delhi’s Madangir.The alleged incident took place in the early hours of Oct 2. In his police complaint, the 28-year-old man stated that around 3.15am, while he was sleeping, a burning sensation in his body suddenly woke him up. He claimed that he discovered hot oil had been poured on him, and that his wife was standing nearby with red chilli powder in her hand.“She told me she poured hot oil on me and would throw more if I raised the alarm,” the man told police. He alleged that she then sprinkled chilli powder on him.He said he cried for help, after which his landlord and brother-in-law rushed to the spot.

He was first taken to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital, where he is being treated for burn injuries.Police said the couple has been married for eight years and the man has earlier faced complaints from his wife at the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell, which were settled.Based on the complainant’s statement and medical report, a case under BNS sections 118(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 124 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) was registered at Ambedkar Nagar police station. Further investigation is underway.
