AGRA: The visit of Afghanistan’s foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to Agra on Sunday was cancelled, without any reason specified, according to the district administration. The Taliban leader was scheduled to travel by road to Agra’s Shilpgram, from where he would have proceeded to Taj Mahal. Muttaqi was slated to spend about an hour-and-a-half at the monument before returning to Delhi.The cancellation was confirmed by the district administration’s protocol unit. Agra district magistrate Aravind Mallapa Bangari said he “can’t comment further” on this matter.Security had been beefed up around the Taj Mahal ahead of Muttaqi’s purported visit. A delegation from the Muslim community had also planned to meet him in Agra, but they had not been given permission due to “security reasons”.Muttaqi, who reached Delhi on Thursday for an official tour, is the first senior minister from the Taliban regime to visit the country after the regime returned to power in Afghanistan around four years ago. India has not yet recognised the Taliban set up in Kabul.The Afghan FM on Saturday had visited Darul Uloom Deoband in UP’s Saharanpur, one of the largest Islamic seminaries in South Asia.
