Civic mockery in Bengaluru: 4 caught dumping garbage roadside, woman dances in front of CCTV

BENGALURU: In a bizarre incident that sparked outrage among citizens and netizens alike, three women and a man were caught on CCTV dumping garbage on a roadside in Mico Layout, south Bengaluru, and then dancing in front of it. The offenders, identified as Subash, Anjali, Vaishnavi and Pallash, are said to be between 25 and 28 years old.CCTV footage shows the group arriving at 3.51am on Oct 28 behind Mico Layout police station compound and throwing a garbage bag on the roadside — an area already notorious for illegal dumping. Moments later, one of the girls began dancing in front of the CCTV camera while her companions watched and laughed.Residents, who had installed CCTV cameras after repeated instances of midnight littering, were furious and described the act as a “mockery of civic sense”. “It’s disrespectful to civic workers and to all of us who have been trying to keep this area clean,” said a resident who shared the video with authorities.According to a senior civic official, the offenders were traced with the help of residents and penalised Rs 1,000 each under solid waste management bylaws. Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials condemned the act, saying such behaviour undermines the city’s efforts to stay garbage-free. “This incident should serve as a lesson that civic violation is not a joke,” said a senior official, adding night-time surveillance will continue across black spots.Complete stadium drain work: CholanBengaluru Central city corporation commissioner Rajendra Cholan directed officials to complete the ongoing stormwater drain (SWD) work at Kanteerava Stadium on a priority, citing frequent flooding and inconvenience to athletes and children using the facility.“The drain is always flooding and people are getting affected. The retaining wall needs to be built quickly and drainage work must be completed at the earliest,” Cholan said during an inspection Wednesday. The K-109 drain, which connects to Sudhama Nagar drain, is also referred to as Kanteerava Stadium drain. It originates in ward no. 110 (Sampangiramanagar), passes through Cubbon Park and Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, and joins Double Road.
