Missing MBBS student found dead in Russia: Ajit Chaudhary's body found in dam; family had sold 3 bigha land to fund his studies

ALWAR: A 22-year-old MBBS student at Bashkir State Medical University in Russia’s Ufa city, who had been missing for the past 19 days, was found dead a few km from the varsity campus. The family of Ajit Chaudhary, from Kafanwada village in Alwar district, received the devastating news on Thursday afternoon.Ajit’s body was found in a dam adjacent to White River, said Alwar Saras Dairy chairman Nitin Sangwan, who had accompanied the victim’s family to the Union ministry of external affairs in New Delhi in a desperate bid to trace him. Junior MEA minister Kirti Vardhan Singh had intervened, prompting intensified search efforts in Russia. His fellow students identified the body, ending the agonising search that had been underway since Oct 19, when Ajit was last seen alive. His clothes were discovered on the riverbank the following day, indicating that he may have been swept away by the rising currents of the river, which had swollen after seasonal rains, Sangwan said.Ajit, the son of Roop Singh Chaudhary, was in his third year of medical studies, a dream which his kin had supported. The family, which owns 20 bighas of land, had sold 3 bighas to fund Ajit’s education in Russia, hoping for a bright future for their son. With his death, their hopes are now dashed.“His fellow students informed the family. The body will be brought back to India following postmortem and necessary embassy clearance,” Sangwan said. Officials said the autopsy was to be conducted by a medical board in Russia. After the procedure, expected to take two days, his body will be repatriated to India for last rites.
