Chambal horror: 3 crocodiles drag Rajasthan man into river; 4-day rescue effort yields no trace
A 37-year-old man from Rajasthan was tragically dragged into the Chambal River by three crocodiles in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A 37-year-old man from Rajasthan went missing after being dragged into the Chambal River by three crocodiles in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning.Despite a four-day rescue effort, no trace of him was found, and search operations were officially called off on Thursday. The victim, Roop Singh Gurjar, a resident of Gangapur City, had come to Dholpur with his son and brother-in-law for a pilgrimage to Machhakund, a nearby religious site within the jurisdiction of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh. After bathing there, the three decided to visit the Chambal River at Rajghat, near the Madhya Pradesh–Rajasthan border. According to eyewitnesses, Roop Singh went near the water to wash his hands when a large crocodile suddenly lunged at him. Two more followed within seconds, dragging him deep into the river even as his son Deepak Gurjar and brother-in-law Badan Singh Gurjar shouted for help.Police and forest officials from Sarai Chola police station went to the spot, and SDRF teams began an intensive search operation. However, strong currents and poor visibility hampered efforts, and after four days of combing the area, authorities suspended the operation on Thursday evening. The incident occurred close to the Chambal Safari area. Locals said there are no warning signs, barricades, or patrols despite frequent crocodile sightings.
