IPS officer suicide: High Court seeks probe report, details of accused

CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana HC Monday ordered Chandigarh administration to submit a status report and details of the accused in the investigation into the suicide of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu passed the directions while hearing a PIL seeking a CBI investigation into the case. “What is the status of the investigation, as it has been almost a month since registration of FIR? Where has the investigation reached, and who all have been named as accused?” HC asked. It sought these details by Thursday. During Monday’s hearing, petitioner Navneet Kumar from Ludhiana reiterated his concern that an officer named in the FIR was currently heading Panchkula district, raising fears he could influence the probe. He pointed out that no arrests had been made, and no officer had yet joined the investigation. The petitioner argued that a senior officer’s suicide due to alleged harassment undermined public confidence.
