LUCKNOW: A wedding in Hardoi turned violent when the father of a DJ operator was shot dead after the groom’s brothers-in-law, Akash and Akhilesh Gautam, arrived at the DJ platform intoxicated and demanded that the music be restarted. Tensions escalated when Akhilesh allegedly told Akash, “Nikaalo aslahaa, maaro goli… main vakilon se sab nipat loonga (Take out the weapon, shoot him, I’ll manage the lawyers).”Akash then pulled out a firearm from his waistband and shot Puttulal (45), Amit’s father, who had arrived with his elder son, Aashish, to intervene and calm the situation.The incident occurred following a dispute over playing music beyond the government’s permitted hours, during which the DJ operator, Amit, had refused to restart the music despite the groom’s brothers-in-law’s insistence.The shooting took place late Thursday night within the Atarouli police station limits of Nevada Vijay village in Hardoi.Amit, who runs the “New Aashish DJ Floor” service, had been booked to perform at the wedding of Tikaram Raidas’s daughter with groom Vikas of Jehata, Lucknow. After the programme concluded at around midnight in compliance with government norms, the groom’s brothers-in-law—Akash and Akhilesh—arrived intoxicated at the DJ platform and insisted on restarting the music. When Amit refused, they allegedly manhandled him, prompting him to call his father Puttulal and elder brother Aashish for help.Upon arrival, the victim and his son tried to pacify the duo, but Akash and Akhilesh became more aggressive. Akash reportedly boasted about his wealth and social standing, claiming he was the chairman of a Lucknow-based property firm and could “buy the entire family along with the DJ floor.” The situation escalated when Akhilesh issued the fatal instruction, leading to Puttulal being shot in the abdomen and collapsing instantly.Amit’s brother and other attendees rushed Puttulal to the hospital, where he was declared dead. The accused fled in a separate vehicle, leaving behind their Jaguar (registration UP 32 FS 0090) at the scene. Several eyewitnesses, including Arun and Rinku, colleagues of Amit, and multiple wedding guests, corroborated the account. SP Ashok Kumar Meena confirmed that Akhilesh was arrested within hours and booked for murder.
