NEW DELHI: An FIR has been filed against the driver of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle after it hit a police constable in Bihar’s Nawada district during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ officials said on Thursday. The incident took place on Tuesday when the Congress MP’s convoy was passing through Bhagat Singh Chowk. The constable fell in front of Gandhi’s vehicle and sustained injuries.Confirming about the FIR, Nawada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Dhiman said, “Yes, a case has been registered against the driver. Further details will be made known in due course”. He had earlier clarified that the constable had tripped in front of a convoy vehicle, which “barely touched his feet.”Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party had criticised the Leader of Opposition following the incident. In a post on X, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla shared a video in which a car carrying Rahul Gandhi was seen running over a police constable. The policeman was later seen limping. The footage quickly went viral on social media.“Rahul Gandhi’s car crushed a police constable who was critically injured. Dynast did not even get down to check on him,” Poonawalla alleged in his post. However, Gandhi was later seen assisting the injured officer. The video showed Gandhi stopping his vehicle, asking his supporters to bring the constable to his open jeep, offering him water and making him sit inside as the yatra continued.
