MUMBAI: Sena’s candidate Haji Saalim Qureshi sustained four stab injuries to the stomach after an unknown assailant attacked him while he was campaigning at Sant Dyaneshwar Nagar in Bandra East on Wednesday. Supporters rushed him to hospital. Sources said the injuries necessitated multiple stitches. Multiple police teams have been formed to nab the attacker. Police were examining CCTV footage from the area. “The motive behind the attack will be known only after the accused is arrested. Qureshi is out of danger,” said DCP (zone 8) Maneesh Kalwaniya. Another police officer said the attack caused tense moments in the area and a police team was immediately dispatched to the spot to keep the situation under control. Qureshi, a former AIMIM functionary, had switched to Sena in Sept 2024. His wife, Gulnaz Saalim Qureshi, a former corporator from ward 92 in Bandra East, had also joined the party.
