JALANDHAR: Punjabi businessman Binder Garcha, 48, was shot dead in Surrey, Canada, on Tuesday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the community. He was a native of Mallan Bedian village near Nawanshahr.Garcha, who owned Studio 12 and a banquet hall, had made a name in wedding photography and videography. He was shot near Ghuman Farms in Surrey.Surrey’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is handling the probe. Police have found a burnt vehicle that is suspected to be linked to the crime.What alarms the Punjabi community in Canada is that prominent businessmen are being targeted there. A couple of them have been killed, and several businesses shot up.In Oct 2025, prominent Punjabi-Canadian businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi, 68, was shot dead outside his house in Abbotsford, British Columbia. A native of Rajgarh near Doraha in Ludhiana, Sahsi was president of Canam International, a very prominent clothing recycler in the world. On June 11 last year, 57-year-old Punjabi-origin businessman, Satwinder Sharma, was shot dead in his office in Surrey. He ran a workforce supply company for 33 years and was well known in the local Punjabi community.
