Stock market holiday today: Are NSE, BSE closed for trading on January 15? Check details

Stock market will remain closed for trading on Thursday, January 15, according to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) calendars in view of the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. The NSE has announced, “Transaction Holiday on January 15, 2026 on account of Municipal Corporation Election in Maharashtra in SLBS.With January 15 added, Indian stock exchanges will now observe 16 trading holidays in 2026, excluding weekends. January 26 will be the second market holiday this month. Both exchanges have also released their list of upcoming holidays for 2026:

  • 15 January: Municipal Corporation Election, Maharashtra
  • 26 January: Republic Day
  • 03 March: Holi
  • 26 March: Shri Ram Navami
  • 31 March: Shri Mahavir Jayanti
  • 03 April: Good Friday
  • 14 April: Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti
  • 01 May: Maharashtra Day
  • 28 May: Bakri Id
  • 26 June: Muharram
  • 14 September: Ganesh Chaturthi
  • 02 October: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
  • 20 October: Dussehra
  • 10 November: Diwali-Balipratipada
  • 24 November: Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev
  • 25 December: Christmas

Meanwhile in Mumbai, security measures were intensified ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Police deployed barricades at multiple locations and conducted vehicle checks to ensure the smooth conduct of voting. Officials stated that arrangements were in place to maintain law and order throughout the civic polls. Voting in the city will take place from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm across 227 wards, with the counting of votes scheduled for 16 January.
