BERHAMPUR: An 18-year-old youth was arrested in Berhampur on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping and attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl in Kandhamal district’s forest area.The incident occurred on Sunday when two persons abducted the minor from a village pond and took her to a nearby forest. The accused and his accomplice allegedly tied her hands, tore her clothes and tried to sexually assault her. They also threatened her not to disclose the incident. However, their attempt failed when the victim strongly resisted.The incident came to light when the girl who spent the entire night in the jungle, returned on Monday and narrated to her parents. Police registered a case against the duo, from the survivor’s village, based on the complaint of her parents.“We have arrested one of the accused and search is on to nab the other one,” said Subham Bhosale, sub-divisional police officer. Police conducted medical exams of the minor and the accused persons as part of their investigation.
