'Jana Nayagan' censor row: Thalapathy Vijay starrer to end the legal battle, Madras HC to hear on February 10
Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ censor row is nearing an end as the producers have withdrawn their legal battle. The Madras High Court will hear the case for withdrawal on February 10, 2026. This move allows the film’s certification process to proceed with the revising committee, potentially paving the way for its delayed release.

The long-running legal and censorship issue around actor Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ has reached a key turning point. The case is now moving out of court and back into the official certification process. The writ petition linked to ‘Jana Nayagan’ has been listed under the caption ‘For Withdrawal’ before Justice P.T. Asha at the Madras High Court on February 10, 2026.

Case listed for withdrawal on February 10

As per The Hindu, the producer has informed the court registry that they no longer wish to continue the case against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This comes after the production house agreed to the CBFC’s decision to refer the film to the revising committee. Thus, the legal process is frozen, and now all eyes are focused on the endorsement stage. The move is now being perceived as an effort to end the deadlock and move closer to a release.

Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan: Remake or Original? The Real Story

Producer steps back from legal battle

Reports have suggested that a formal letter was submitted to the High Court registry stating the producer’s decision to withdraw the case. Vijayan Subramanian, the counsel-on-record for the production banner, told the court that his client was no longer interested in continuing the litigation. This means the producers will not push for court orders or urgent certification anymore. Instead, they have chosen to follow the CBFC’s official process. The listing on February 10 is expected to solve this issue and let the review board work without being stopped by any legal procedures.

How did the ‘Jana Nayagan’ censor row begin?

‘Jana Nayagan’ was set to be released on the 9th of January, 2026. The film was reviewed by CBFC on the 19th of December, 2025, and the filmmakers were informed that the film could obtain a U/A 16+ rating with some cuts. The producers accepted the suggestions, made the edits, and resubmitted the film. But a board member for monitors raised concerns about procedure, religious issues and mentions of the army. Following this, the CBFC put the certification on hold and referred the film to the revising committee.

Focus shifts back to the certification process

Before the CBFC’s decision was officially uploaded online, the producers moved the Madras High Court seeking urgent certification within 24 hours. The court heard the case and asked the CBFC to submit all records. Now, with the case officially listed “For Withdrawal” on February 10, the legal route has been dropped. The future of ‘Jana Nayagan’ now fully depends on the revising committee’s decision, as the industry waits for clarity on certification and the film’s long-delayed release.

‘Jana Nayagan’ cast and music

Directed by H Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is reported to be a commercial entertainer. Alongside Vijay, the film also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raja, and Priyamani, among others. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music, and the film songs have clocked massive views on streaming platforms.
