New York Rangers to play without Matt Rempe against the Philadelphia Flyers after the Olympic break

The New York Rangers are going to play without forward Matt Rempe on February 26 against the Philadelphia Flyers, as the club has placed Rempe on injured reserve due to a second procedure on his injured thumb. As per reports, Rempe sustained the injury during a fight with Ryan Reaves of the San Jose Sharks earlier in the season, which caused Rempe to miss 24 games. He later revealed he had broken his thumb in “many places” and required surgery, forcing him to miss 24 games, including the entirety of November.Though he returned in mid-December and played intermittently before the Olympic break, appearing in the Rangers’ final five games before the pause. But now the player will take more time to fully recover. Sharing the news on Twitter/X, Mollie Walker of the New York Post stated, “Some #NYR news from Milan: Matt Rempe will have another procedure done on his thumb. He is going on IR.”Speaking about his thumb injury, Rempe stated, “You don’t realize how much a thumb impacts you. Like, any time I don’t catch a puck perfectly, it felt like a hot potato on my stick. And like stick battles, I was dropping my stick multiple times a game, and any stick battles, if someone’s stick-lifting me, that puck’s gone.”According to the NHL, Matt Rempe has signed a two-year contract worth $1.95 million with the New York Rangers, with an average annual value of $975,000. Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Peter Baugh reported that the Rangers have not completely ruled out Rempe for the remainder of the season yet.
