Two brothers shot dead at wedding reception in Patna; police suspect old property dispute as motive

PATNA: Two brothers were shot dead by unidentified assailants at a wedding reception in Bihar’s Shahpur village late Sunday evening, police said.Preliminary investigations suggest that Manjeet Kumar and Manish Kumar, aged 25 and 27, were killed over an old dispute, authorities added. The incident took place in Shahpur village, under the jurisdiction of Gopalpur police station.“Police received a call that two brothers were shot at by some unidentified persons at the wedding reception of the son of a local resident, Daulat Rai. Police immediately reached the spot and took the duo to the nearest government hospital, where they were declared brought dead,” superintendent of police, Patna East, Parichay Kumar told PTI.Police recovered three spent cartridges from the spot and efforts are being made to nab the accused. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the officer said.Prima facie it appears that the two were killed over some old dispute, probably related to property, Kumar said. (With agency inputs)
