AGRA: Two armed men, including a Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawan, barged into a private hospital in Aligarh and fired a bullet at a 38-year-old patient point blank even as other patients and attendants watched in horror around 10 pm Monday. The assailants then fled. The critically injured patient was shifted to a higher medical centre, where he died around noon on Tuesday.Initial investigation indicated that the incident was linked to a love affair, as the victim was in a relationship with a girl for the past five years. Police on Tuesday said the girl’s father, Devendera Chaudhary, a UP Police constable posted in Baghpat, was arrested from Mathura.“The woman’s cousin, Bhupendra Chaudhary, 28, a PAC jawan, and an associate arrived at the hospital and allegedly fired at Vedpal,” said a police officer, adding that efforts were underway to trace the two. A case under BNS Section 103 (murder) was registered in the matter, the officer said.Victim Vedpal Singh was a resident of Ahraula village in Khair. He had suffered a fracture in one of his arms and had undergone a surgical procedure on Monday.SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, “Preliminary investigation revealed that Vedpal was in a relationship with a Mathura woman for several years. However, her family fixed her marriage to another man, and the wedding was scheduled for Feb 3, 2026. The woman’s family members alleged that Vedpal tried to break the alliance, following which her relatives assaulted him. Mathura police took legal action against him and sent him to jail for 14 days under judicial custody. That marriage was eventually called off. However, the woman later married another man. Her family blamed Vedpal for the fiasco and continued to threaten him.”The victim’s cousin, Kuldeep Tomar, told TOI, “After completing legal studies, Vedpal worked under a lawyer. He was in a relationship with the girl for the past five years. Her father, brother and cousin are serving in the UP Police.”
