H-1B visa selection notices start rolling out: Who can check status and what you need to know

H-1B visa selection notices for financial year 2027 have started rolling out, marking the next stage of the annual lottery process. Registration window for the same closed on March 19, 2026 and now employers and immigration attorneys have started receiving updates in their USCIS online accounts. USCIS had earlier said it would send notifications by March 31, and according to online posts as of March 27, some applicants have already seen their status change to “Selected.” “Seeing H1B selection notices starting to roll in. Keep in mind, this is a SLOW process that will go throughout the weekend. Your employers and attorneys will likely wait to send things out until USCIS has announced all notices have been uploaded. No email notification, just checked my account!,” Houston-based immigration attorney Steven Brown shared in an X post.

Who can check H-1B lottery result

It is important to note here that the H-1B lottery result is not visible on the regular USCIS case status tool at this stage. Instead, results are available only in the USCIS online account used to submit the registration. USCIS sends selection notifications to employers or their legal representatives through these accounts. Therefore, applicants cannot check the result directly unless they have access to the account. The most reliable way to know the status is to contact the employer, HR team, or immigration attorney who submitted the application. The status may show

  • Selected
  • Submitted
  • Not Selected, along with other possible updates like duplicate or invalid registrations.

What selected candidates should do next

If a registration is marked as “Selected,” it means the employer can now file a full H-1B petition during the given filing window. However, selection does not mean approval. The petition must still be prepared and submitted with proper documents. If the status remains “Submitted,” there is still a chance of selection in future rounds. Those marked “Not Selected” will not be eligible for this year’s cap. Employers filing petitions should also note that the premium processing fee has increased to $2,965 from March 2026.
