Rottweilers maul woman to death in Karnataka: Victim bitten in ‘50 places’; brother suspects foul play

DAVANAGERE: A 38-year-old woman died after being mauled by two rottweilers in Honnuru Gollarahatti village on the outskirts of Davanagere late Thursday.The victim, Anita Halesh, was walking from Mallashettihalli to Honnuru Gollarahatti around 11pm after leaving home following an argument with her children. She was on her way to her parents’ home in Vaddanahalli when the dogs attacked her.The rottweilers bit her in nearly 50 places, causing grievous injuries to her legs, thighs, neck, face, and head. Villagers rushed her to a private hospital in Davanagere. She died en route to a hospital in Bengaluru.CCTV footage shows around 10pm, a group of individuals arrived in an autorickshaw and let the two dogs near the entrance of Honnuru Gollarahatti. Victim’s brother suspects foul play, demands probe Minutes later, the dogs attacked Anita as she passed by. Villagers said the incident occurred around 11.30pm.Anita’s brother, Krishna Chandrappa, filed a complaint suspecting foul play and has demanded a thorough investigation.On Friday, residents captured the dogs, tied them up and dragged them through the village streets. CCTV footage has captured the auto arriving and the dogs being released. “It’s not clear why the two dogs were abandoned,” police said.A complaint has been filed with Davanagere Rural police station. Based on the CCTV footage, an FIR has been registered. Villagers have urged police to book those responsible for abandoning the dogs on charges of murder.
