NEW DELHI: After India’s nine-wicket win over South Africa in Visakhapatnam sealed the ODI series 2-1, a light-hearted moment between Virat Kohli and Arshdeep Singh that quickly went viral. As players celebrated the comprehensive victory, Arshdeep jokingly told Kohli, “Few runs short, otherwise another century was confirmed for you.” Kohli instantly fired back, laughing, “It was good we won the toss, otherwise you would have also completed your century due to the dew!” The exchange reflected the relaxed aura around the Indian camp, especially with Kohli back at his dominant best.Watch:Kohli finished the series as the leading run-scorer with 302 runs, following hundreds in the first two games and an unbeaten 65 in the finale. More importantly for him, the innings symbolised a mental shift. “Honestly, playing the way I have in the series is the most satisfying thing for me. I feel really free in my mind. I haven’t played like this in 2-3 years,” Kohli said after receiving the Player of the Series award. The former captain admitted that even seasoned players aren’t immune to self-doubt. “When you play for that long — 15-16 years — you do doubt yourself. Especially as a batter when one mistake can get you out. It’s a whole journey of getting better and getting better as a person along the way. It improves you as a person and it improves temperament as well.”India’s win was shaped by their bowlers, with Prasidh Krishna (4/66) and Kuldeep Yadav (4/41) dismantling South Africa’s middle order after a strong start led by ton-up Quinton de Kock.With the ODI series wrapped up and spirits high, banter included, both teams now shift focus to the upcoming T20Is in Cuttack.
