Bengaluru Youths’ Goa Trip Turns Tragic After Fire Incident | Goa News

Goa nightclub fire: Night out becomes nightmare for Bengaluru youth; 20-year-old woman suffers 28% burns

PANAJI: It was a holiday-turned-nightmare for a group of youth who travelled to Goa from Bengaluru for a fun weekend. The last thing they imagined was having one of their friends, a 20-year-old woman, put in a dire situation with 28.5% burns. She is currently undergoing treatment in the department of plastic surgery and burns at the GMC.Visibly shaken, her friends told TOI that the nine of them arrived in Goa for the weekend and were due to return on Sunday night.“Four of us came out for dinner to the club. The rest stayed at the hotel. We had dinner and were supposed to leave after the belly dance performance, but the fire took place during the performance,” the youth told TOI.“The fire broke out because of the sparklers during the performance. Sparks hit the ceiling and flames engulfed the place. There was a blackout, and we couldn’t find each other. Everyone began to run out,” the youth told TOI, at a loss for words.“We didn’t wait for an ambulance; we carried our friend and took her to North Goa district hospital and then to the GMC on our own. All of us are afraid. Something like this has never happened to us before. We don’t know how to deal with it,” the youth said.In another case, a doctor couple that travelled from Mumbai for the weekend also got caught in the fire. The wife managed to escape and is now caring for her 31-year-old husband, who is undergoing treatment in the burns ward with 12% superficial to deep burns.“We are Jain; we don’t eat egg and all, so I’ve brought kichdi for him. What has happened is very unfortunate,” a friend of the doctor couple living in Goa told TOI.
