
CHANDIGARH: A speeding black Mahindra Thar hit two sisters standing by the roadside in Sector 46, Chandigarh, on Tuesday afternoon, killing one and leaving the other critically injured.The accident occurred around 3 pm when 22-year-old Sojef and her 24-year-old sister Isha, residents of Burail village in Sector 45, were waiting for an auto-rickshaw outside Dev Samaj College. The jeep, bearing a Chandigarh registration, reportedly rammed into them at high speed before fleeing the scene.Bystanders rushed both sisters to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. Doctors declared Sojef dead on arrival, while Isha remains in the intensive care unit in critical condition.Their father, Saved, said the family originally hails from Uttar Pradesh and has been living in Chandigarh for several years. He said:“My daughter Sojef was studying BA at Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, and was also learning beauty parlour work in Sector 46. She had big dreams, but everything ended in a moment.”Police from Sector 34, who responded to the incident, said the Thar is registered to an address in Sector 21. However, the owner has sold the house, and the accused no longer lives there. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the driver.“We are scanning CCTV cameras and verifying the vehicle’s ownership details. The accused will be arrested soon,” a police official said.Sector 34 police have registered a case against an unknown person and are actively investigating the matter.
