Quit govt job, went to UK for studies: Haryana student stabbed to death in street attack; family seeks MEA help
Brother of Haryana man murdered in UK urges MEA to help transfer body to India

CHANDIGARH: A 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana was stabbed to death in a street attack in Worcester, United Kingdom, prompting his family to appeal to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for urgent help in bringing his body back to India. The victim, identified as Vijay Kumar Sheoran of Jagrambass village in Charkhi Dadri district, had moved to the UK earlier this year to pursue higher studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He had quit his government job two years ago to chase his academic ambitions abroad. According to West Mercia Police, officers found Vijay with severe stab injuries around 4.15am on November 25 on Barbourne Road. He was rushed to hospital but died later the same day. Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently out on bail, while a sixth suspect detained earlier has been released without further action. Police have appealed for witnesses as the investigation continues. Back home, Vijay’s elder brother Ravi Kumar has written to the MEA, saying the family cannot manage the “complex foreign procedures, legal formalities, and financial aspects” required to repatriate the body. “We appeal to the government to help us so that his last rites can be held here,” Ravi said to news ageny PTI. Local MLA Sunil Sangwan has also written to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar seeking swift intervention, noting that the circumstances of Vijay’s murder are being probed by UK authorities. As the investigation unfolds abroad, Vijay’s family waits anxiously for assistance to bring him home for a final farewell.
