4 MBBS students killed as car rams into stationary truck on Delhi-Lko NH

Meerut: Four MBBS students from a private university in UP’s Amroha — hailing originally from Delhi, Kolkata, Alwar and Agartala — were crushed to death after their speeding car rammed into a stationary truck on the Delhi-Lucknow national highway-9 in the district’s Rajabpur area around 10pm on Wednesday.Prima facie, the car was travelling at high speed and the person behind the wheel was suspected to be inebriated, police said.SP Amroha, Amit Kumar Anand, said, “The impact of the crash was so severe that the car, coming from Gajraula side, was completely mangled and a cutter was used to pull out the bodies, which were sent for postmortem. It seemed the car was speeding and its driver failed to notice the truck — loaded with foam mattresses — parked along the highway and crashed into it. All of them died on the spot. There were liquor bottles in the car, and the investigation is ongoing.SP Anand added: “A case was registered against the unidentified stationary truck driver who had managed to flee. Trucks are allowed to park at designated areas along NHs at night, but in this case, the driver placed the heavy vehicle dangerously on the highway.”Those dead were identified as Ayush Sharma, 23, a resident of Dwarka in Delhi; Saptarshi Das, 24, from Agartala in Tripura; Arnav Chakraborty, 25, from Kolkata; and Shreshth Pancholi, 24, from Alwar, Rajasthan. All four completed their MBBS (2020 batch) from Shri Venkateshwara University in Amroha’s Gajraula and were undergoing internships.A fellow student, who was present at the mortuary, said that the students were the only male child in their families. Ayush’s father serves as an ASI with Delhi Police, while Shreshth’s younger sister is also pursuing MBBS.His father was a govt school teacher and died in a road accident a few years ago while on poll duty as a booth level officer. His mother is a govt school teacher.CM Yogi Adityanath was among those who expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
