Perfume that is seeing long queues at Amazon's AI event

Amazon‘s AI perfume booth has reportedly drawn long queues at a recent event. Such sessions on complex topics as cloud upgrades, data lakes, and container migrations are helpful to the software engineers attending the conference. But none proved as popular as the AI perfume booth, the Reuters report said. Even into the third day, the line for the Fragrance Lab remained long, at one point with more than 70 waiting in line and delays of an hour or more.In a statement to Reuters, Amazon described the scent lab as a marketing “gimmick,” but said it’s designed to illustrate the myriad ways that AI software can be applied. In order to create perfumes, attendees had to follow voice instructions on a screen that leveraged four different AI models-all made by Amazon-which generated a scent for human perfume makers to mix.Some of the recently crafted fragrances included Alpine Reverie, Terra Venture, Metropol, and Tranquil Pulse, all composed by human perfumers that Amazon brought in from France.Here’s what Amazon conference attendees said about AI perfumeThe voice-activated service let users create a signature fragrance. For instance, one of the attendees, Peter Nikoloff, 37, waited almost two hours to be first in line and ended up designing a fragrance for his wife with notes of mint, sandalwood, and sage.“It was pretty unimpressive: It just didn’t come out as I expected,” said Walker, a 30-year-old nuclear power engineer, who had told the AI that he was nature-loving and creative, but the final scent, a bamboo-and-mint blend called “Sylvan Craft,” felt, to him, “very feminine.”“I like more earthy scents or nutty scents. I’ll give this to my girlfriend, she’ll be happy with it,” he added.
